DEMENTIA CARE MATTERS

Sally Knocker from Dementia Care Matters films Pax Hill's EMF wing Deputy Manager, Soja Norhona, talking about the implementation of Butterfly Household ideas in Pax Hill residential dementia home. The Butterfly Household Model of Care was devised by Dr David Sheard, founder of Dementia Care Matters. DCM are a leading international dementia care culture change organisation based in the UK, Canada and Australia. They provide consultancy, learning development, training resources and practice based research. They believe a new culture of care comes from focussing on a model of emotional intelligence. Pax Hill Director, EMF Manager and Deputy Manager attend the Person Centred Dementia Care course run by DCM.

TEDDY BEARS PICNIC

Pax Hill Care Home’s residents were entertained by toddlers from Bentley’s nursery school Dottie Tots. The “Teddy bears Picnic” outing was a great success. The children all brought a teddy bear with them to enjoy the morning too.

The children and nursery staff walked (or rode in wheeled carts) the mile from the nursery school to Pax Hill where they sang nursery rhymes accompanied by the residents and joined in with morning coffee and drinks.

The children helped by taking plates of biscuits to the residents and made a big difference to the morning activity.

Dotty Tots is a small nursery serving the village of Bentley. This year they will be making use of Pax Hill Care Home’s 9 acres of gardens once a month for “Bug Hunts”. The joint arrangement will work well as Pax Hill’s gardens are overflowing with the wonders of nature.
