Top 20 Awards

Pax Hill’s EMF unit is in the TOP 20 care homes in the South East, as recommended by our residents and their families.

Residential Care For Dementia

Pax Hill’s Residential EMF Wing (Elderly Mentally Frail) has been rebuilt during 2018. Most of the existing building has been demolished and that which remained has been completely refurbished.

This new building has been designed and constructed with the help of specialists and innovators in the field of dementia care. The award winning interior designers have years of experience in designing dementia environments and have worked with dementia specialists to provide Pax Hill with a home that is an outstanding place to live.

Although this is a new home in respect of fixtures and fittings, it has a history of providing good care for over twenty years. The staff have been key to this redesign process and enthusiastically look forward to a new era of dementia care with the most modern technology to help them.

DOWNSTAIRS

On the ground floor, an open plan living area overlooks the freely accessible, enclosed garden and surrounding fields. There is a resident’s kitchen with farmhouse table and safe to use appliances. Time has been spent on the details. Contrasting coloured crockery and linen helps those with sight problems to differentiate shapes. The seating areas have chairs of different heights for people of different sizes, in colours that contrast with flooring so they can be easily seen.

For the winter, a central fireplace surrounded by comfortable seating gives a homely feel and the resident’s library provides an area of peace and quiet.

There are eleven bedrooms on this floor. Some with access to an enclosed patio, all with en-suite facilities.

ON THE FIRST FLOOR

A lift and stairs provide access to the first floor’s 22 en-suite bedrooms. Some have private balconies overlooking the fields, some with views to the south.

ON THE SECOND FLOOR

Is the residents bar, cinema, outdoor terrace with fantastic views of the surrounding farmland and “sky lounge” with views to the village of Bentley and south to Crooksbury Hill. These communal areas provide an alternative to the ground floor living space and an option to engage in different activities. There are six bedrooms on this floor.

THE GARDEN

Designed as an area for residents to actively make use of as well as enjoy. There will be a fountain, summer house, raised beds with herbs and sensory planting. Clearly defined walkways and seating areas. The garden will be freely accessible to residents from the ground floor communal area.

THE SHOP

An old fashioned sweet shop provides a taste of nostalgia for the residents.

THE HAIR SALON

The vintage style hair salon is open weekly and in addition to the usual hairdressing services, provides a nail bar and chiropody centre.

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Electronic care planning, acoustic and PIR movement sensors provide an unobtrusive safety net for residents. These innovative systems allow residents to have freedom of choice yet remain safe and secure.
